Variety Pianist

Michael Martinez

The talented Michael Martinez started playing piano at age 12 for restaurant gigs and private parties. He was introduced to acclaimed New Age pianist Jonathon Lee at age 13, and subsequently became his protegé. After Lee’s passing in 2004, Michael took over Lee’s position as The Grand Piano Man for the Big Sur International Marathon. He has played annually for the runners on the nine foot concert grand piano at the famous Bixby Bridge turnout ever since.

Michael’s musical repertoire seamlessly blends genres from jazz to classical to movie themes and original compositions. Whether you need light background music for a small social gathering, or upbeat jazz during a cocktail party, Michael’s music is suitable for all occasions.

Well known and quite active in the Monterey Bay music community, Michael enjoys playing for private events, festivals, and with various other musicians. He is also the Music Director for the Center for Spiritual Awakening.

Michael has played for:

Bernardus Lodge & Spa
Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula
